Flashback Friday: ‘Rampart’ Movie Review

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”30116″ img_size=”680×478″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Some movies are uncomfortable to watch. Let’s take 2011’s Rampart. Woody Harrelson, an extremely corrupt and bigoted cop; is the movie’s main star. As someone who has been in the LAPD for 24 years, he’s grown very comfortable in his behavior and views himself as untouchable. This, of course; unravels throughout the course of the movie as Dave (Harrelson) realizes that he cannot simply beat someone and get away with it.

Not only is Dave is known for his rumored crimes among the police department, but he is pretty disliked by his eldest daughter Helen (played by Brie Larson). Dave has an odd home life – he lives with his two ex-wives, who are sisters; and his daughters Helen and Margaret. Despite how peculiar it could be, it seems to be working out at first. That is until Dave’s destructive behavior shows how much he’s strained those around him. How his selfishness has essentially tainted the people he supposedly loves.

While Dave was uncomfortable, at times; to watch, it showed the acting capability that Harrelson possesses. The fact that he was able to craft a man who was on the line between coherent and completely losing his mind was impressive. We see Dave deconstruct throughout the movie and there are moments where you could even possibly feel bad for him, despite how horrible of a human being he has been.

The ending did leave off in an unresolved manner and it’s a movie I’d only really watch once, but if you want to get in the head of an unhinged man, Rampart is a film to see.

Rampart stars Harrelson, Ned Beatty, Ben Foster, Anne Heche, Ice Cube, Cynthia Nixon, Sigourney Weaver, Robin Wright, Steve Buscemi, Brie Larson, and Jon Bernthal.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpte72HaLRE” align=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
