Footage From a Cancelled Avengers Game Featured Skrulls

Gamers and Avengers fans will be curious over the new gameplay footage of a canceled Marvel video game surfacing online.

In this new gameplay footage, the Avengers (consisting of Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Thor) take on the Skrulls. This canceled video game was a first-person co-op game and was in development for the XBox 360, PS3, and PC – developed at THQ Studio Australia. It was intended to be released around 2012’s Avengers film when the studio closed. Keep in mind that this is an early build of the game, but it gives an insight into what could have been.

Andrew Borman provided the footage. Borman works at the Museum of Play in Rochester, New York as a Digital Games Curator. The first Avengers film was released in 2012 and contained the plot of Loki invading New York with the help of the Chitauri army, provided by Thanos. Skrulls weren’t introduced until 2019’s Captain Marvel, so the Avengers game had little to do with the MCU timeline at the time. Unless it was supposed to tease an eventual Skrulls involvement?

Here is the description of the YouTube video:

“This is footage from an early build of THQ’s The Avengers, running on Xbox 360. It was recovered from a hard drive over on ObscureGamers, and is missing many of the files that may have once been included, if they ever made it to an Xbox 360 build.”

What do you think of the Avengers game that never was?
