Ever since season one, Tracy Stevens has been chosen as the poster girl for the astronaut program. Despite, at times; not being particularly worthy of her celebrity status, Tracy does try her best. We’ve seen many characters excel, even when they stumble at times. Seeing Tracy always stumble her way through and not entirely getting there is actually one of the most refreshing things about her character. The fact that she’s not the perfect astronaut is what makes her so tangible as a character.
Slight Spoilers
Just as Tracy tires of her own celebrity status, you as the viewer will as well. While it made sense in season two for her to be chosen as the poster child for the space program, it doesn’t make a lot of sense now. It feels outdated. In For All Mankind, people have been constantly on the moon for the past decade. Plenty of women have been up there and have commanded Jameson (we saw Ellen commanding it in the season premiere). So, why after all these years is Tracy still the one they choose to focus on? It gets tiring and we can tell that Tracy dislikes it as well.
Episode five of For All Mankind not only focused on Tracy dealing with her time on the moon and Gordo preparing to return to the moon, but the US preparing to retrieve their land on the moon back from the Soviets. Is sending weapons to the moon a good idea? Probably not, but that’s what we’re seeing happening. And I am sure the consequences are not going to be something our characters like.
What’s Going on With Karen and Danny?
Also, something I’ve noticed is that the show is starting to show Karen and Danny Stevens spending more time with each other. Not only did Karen watch over Danny when he was a child in season one, but Danny is the son of Karen’s friend Tracy. And Karen is married to Ed. Which, begs us to question, what is the show trying to insinuate with these moments between Karen and Danny? Things are not seemingly going too well in Ed and Karen’s relationship right now as Ed prepares to go back into space. Just something I thought I’d point out.
