If you scour the internet, like I did; you can find just about anything. Such as some pretty good foreign-films that may not have been on your radar. One would be 2008’s Sólo Quiero Caminar, which translates to Walking Vengeance. A Spanish speaking film, Walking Vengeance was directed by Agustin Diaz Yanes. The movie was originally nominated for eleven Goya Awards (Spain’s main annual national film awards) and won one for Best Cinematography.

Starring Diego Luna, José María Yazpik, Victoria Abril, Ariadna Gil, Pilar López de Ayala, and Elena Anaya, Walking Vengeance is a crime drama with a unique twist that you don’t often see in films. On one hand, you have Luna as Gabriel, who vows revenge against his incarcerated father who beat his mother to death. Gabriel works for Felix (Yazpik) who plays a ruthless drug lord who takes Gabriel to Spain for a deal. Felix walks away with a new bride, Ana (Anaya) who he begins being very abusive to.
Ana, her sister Aurora (Gil), and their friends Paloma (Ayala) and Gloria (Abril) do whatever they can to survive. Ana herself marries Felix to eventually rob from him. The women pull off jewel heists, know how to con the best of them, and yes, use their sexual prowess to get what they want. When you watched these women, in positions that you probably wouldn’t be used to seeing women in films; it takes you out of your comfort zone a little. It then became really cool to watch these women be [actually] in complete control.

As a friend of Narcos: Mexico, where Luna plays the boss and Yazpik the subordinate; it was interesting seeing the roles reversed. Felix played a dangerous and powerful figure who you legit were scared of at times. Diego played his role well, but the film really was about the strong women in this film. I would definitely recommend finding Walking Vengeance and giving it a watch. There were some uncertain time jumps, but besides that, I thought it was a well put together film.
