‘Foundation’ Episode Three Review: Building Towards Something Special

Foundation is continuing to be a beautiful beacon of sci-fi glory. The third episode is now available on Apple TV+ and it’s an episode that moves the story along. While the first two episodes were necessarily paired together, episode three acts as a catalyst to telling the broader picture.

A Necessary Pause in Action

The show time jumps ahead from the story we saw in the first two episodes. Which, is understandable considering we know that this show is meant to span hundreds and hundreds of years. However, if no one had really told you that there was a nineteen year time jump you may not have realized it. After all, the Empire remains the same – unconsciously repeating the process that was warned would crumble. We are introduced to different players in this episode, who are moved into the limelight despite there having been entirely different main characters in the first two episodes.

That is the nature of Foundation though. Due to it spanning so many years, we can expect to not see the same characters. Though, I will say I am happy to still see Lee Pace, who continues to command the screen every time he is present. This episode was all about background information, helping us along in this new world. We all know lore from other sci-fi franchises, but for many this old story is new to us. So, it is nice to have an episode that made sure to tell the audience pivotal information in this epic galaxy opera.
