The biggest award show has just announced its nominees for the upcoming event. John Cho and Issa Rae announced the categories and the nominees. Some picks for some categories seem obvious, but there were some snubs. The general consensus from social media is that Adam Sandler (and Uncut Gems), Jennifer Lopez, Lupita Nyong’o, and Greta Gerwig were snubbed. Of course, every award season there are snubs, but some are more obvious and blatant than others. Either way, there’s a lot of talent and great content in the list below, so let’s get to it!

There are a lot of fantastic movies on this list! Joker, Marriage Story, 1917, and Parasite are obvious contenders, but it makes me so happy that Ford v Ferrari and Jojo Rabbit were nominated. They truly deserve to contend with the rest on this list!

While I didn’t see Richard Jewell, my associate Cainan did and if the movie is as good as he says it is, Kathy Bates deserves to be on this list. I personally adored Jojo Rabbit, so I’m giving it to Scarlett Johanson on this one. Although, I’m hearing great things about Florence Pugh in Little Women. I’m sorry, though; I don’t think Laura Dern should be on this list when there were others who deserve a seat at the table.

Okay, but Avengers: Endgame needs to win. The Irishman, seriously?
Looking at this list, we see a lot of repeats. Joker, Ford v Ferrari, 1917, Parasite, Jojo Rabbit, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. While I will say that I don’t believe The Irishman or Once Upon a time in Hollywood should necessarily be on these lists as much as they are, because movies like Uncut Gems were snubbed, I don’t believe that they will win against some of those in the same category. I could be wrong, though. It is odd that The Farewell seems to have been snubbed. It’s going to be a tight race for some and I know many are feeling like the Academy is tone-deaf on a lot of other projects. Which films were snubbed and which are you excited were nominated?
