Back in June, we had the pleasure of talking to Finnish artist Heikala, who is based in Japan. During our chat we spoke about her beginnings, her love of Japan, its influences on her art and the cover work she did for the English Translation of Keisuke Uyama’s beloved book Love Like the Falling Petals. Published by Clover Press and Media Do International, along with Shueisha Inc. Her elegant and colorful cover work mirrored the story for the book perfectly.
Coming August 26th, Gallery Nucleus is hosting a solo exhibition for Heikala featuring the debut of new artwork and exclusive art prints from the talented illustrator. This show will run from August 26th – September 10th, located at 210 East Main St. Alhambra CA 91801. Details for the show were released in the following announcement from the Gallery on their website: https://www.gallerynucleus.com/events/980?more_info=1 and shown below:

ABOUT HEIKALA
Heikala is an artist and illustrator from Oulu, Finland, who now lives in Japan. She uses the traditional mediums of ink and watercolor to tell stories and bridge the divide between mundane and magical. She frequently attends conventions around the world.
Heikala’s educational background is in graphic design, with a degree from Lahti Institute of Design. She started creating art full-time in 2016, creating all her artworks traditionally with inks and watercolor, but lately She has also been interested in other mediums, such as poster colors and markers. Heikala’s style is influenced by Finnish children’s book illustrations, Japanese animation, and her many travels in Japan.
For those in the Los Angeles area, this might be a great show to see. Heikala’s watercolor art is breathtakingly beautiful.
