Garth Ennis is Returning for New Punisher Comic Series

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”28515″ img_size=”411×632″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Garth Ennis is known for one of the longest and most acclaimed Punisher runs in the Marvel Comic history. Now, he is returning to the Punisher this November with a six-issue miniseries with artist Jacen Burrows. The miniseries is called Punisher Soviet and begins in November. You can see the official press release below:

As long as there is trouble in the Marvel Universe, the Punisher’s work is never done — and in November, he’s facing a formidable foe while finding a kindred spirit. But this new chapter for Frank Castle is also special because it marks the return of a legendary storyteller — Garth Ennis comes back to Marvel to write PUNISHER SOVIET, and he’s bringing along his frequent collaborator, artist Jacen Burrows, who also provides a variant cover. Paolo Rivera provides the main cover, shown here:

PUNISHER SOVIET is not just a return to Marvel for Ennis, but also a return to Frank Castle. Ennis has written for the Punisher many times before, each time exploring different aspects of Frank Castle’s story, whether he was at war abroad or with himself. Now that Castle is in a position to team up with someone who might understand his motivations, Ennis is the perfect writer to take him on his latest quest for justice. On his love for the character, Ennis says: “There’s a brilliant simplicity about Frank. He never changes — in an ever-shifting and evolving world, he remains resolutely himself.”

While Frank’s team-up may be unusual for the Punisher, Ennis commented on his reunion with Burrows: “Jacen is easily one of my top ten collaborators — he’s a master storyteller, an expert at both characters and action. We did some of my all-time favorite work together, such as Crossed, Wormwood, and — particularly relevant for readers of PUNISHER SOVIET — 303.”

In PUNISHER SOVIET, Frank Castle faces the wrath of the Russian mob when twelve of them end up dead at his feet — but he wasn’t the one who pulled the trigger. Who is the one beating Frank to the bad guys? You’ll have to pick up PUNISHER SOVIET #1 this November!

Ennis is also working on another Punisher series in 2020 called Get Fury, this time with artist Goran Parlov. It will be interesting to see what Ennis brings to the character Frank Castle this time around. While Jon Bernthal’s run as the Punisher is seemingly done due to Netflix’s contract, we can at least have Frank Castle in the comic book sense.

“I have two Punisher miniseries coming up – Soviet, drawn by Jacen Burrows and apparently coming out in November, and Get Fury, with art by Goran Parlov, presumably appearing next year.” – Ennis stated.

What do you think about the press release for both projects?
