She’s done comedy, horror, drama, superhero fare, and even hardcore action flicks but How I Met Your Mother and Birds of Prey star Charlene Amoia will be toasting eggnog to something completely new for her this month, the romantic drama A ROYAL CHRISTMAS ON ICE (GAC TV, November 5).
Is this the first Christmas movie to release in November? You might beat the rest to the punch!
Yes I think you’re right! It’s part of GAC TV’s 18 original movie premieres for this Christmas season.
Can you tell us a little about the plot and who you play?
It’s a sweet and romantic story about an ice skating champion who has built up some walls around finding love, but meets a charming and persistent prince who before she know’s it is able to break through her barriers and show up in her life in the most unexpected ways.
I play her best friend who is always there to encourage and remind her to open up, give people a chance and allow life’s mysteries to unfold.
What appealed to you about the project?
I love Christmas movies and stories that uplift the spirt . Also, I have worked with our director Fred Olen Ray on two other movies before this so when he invited me to be part of the cast, I was thrilled.
And how does working on something more independently-skewed, than say BIRDS OF PREY, differ? All come down to what’s offered on the catering table?
Hahah. Well sure, the catering tables can be yummy and a fun place to hang out and have some great conversations but I would say one of differences are with a smaller budget sometimes you may have to wear a couple different hats and really try to help each other out more. Because of that it can have a bit more of a family vibe.
Had the producers of this film seen you in something that made them realize you were the right person to the role?
Yes the director and producers hired me in two other films so I think we have a nice working relationship which always makes being on set fun and comfortable.
We last saw you in THE CONJURING : THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT. Can you talk a little about that experience?
We filmed The Conjuring in Atlanta, Georgia right before the pandemic and then some reshoots during. The family I got paired with was one of my very favorites to date. It’s always wonderful when you get cast against people you really love and enjoy. It makes the experience fulfilling in so many ways and this movie really holds a special place in my heart because of that. And of course, I was so excited to be part of this franchise as the first Conjuring movie still goes down as the scariest movie I’ve seen. So much respect for the creative teams in this world!
Can you tease what’s next?
I just actually finished filming a six episode series called These Stones. It’s a very special project that interweaves the supernatural and physical worlds in a way that really uplifts and inspires. I think this story is full of hope and wonder and I absolutely can not wait for people to see it!
How are you spending Christmas – seems like a timely question – Charlene?
Haha. Good question. Still thinking about it but I’ve been on holiday traveling around Spain and Italy for the past couple of weeks so I’ll probably just have a cozy Christmas at home with my loved ones and doggie Benny, of course!
Thanks so much for joining us, Charlene! Be sure to check out Charlene Amoia in her new movie, A Royal Christmas On Ice, coming to Great American Family.
