Gender-bent Ghost, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’

One noticeable trend with villains in superhero movies is that they all seem to be male. Despite Cate Blanchett’s awesome performance as Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, she is one of only a few female antagonists to grace the big screen. Marvel’s upcoming soon-to-be success, Ant-Man and the Wasp’ features a lethal villain named Ghost with a very obvious change to its comic book origin.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”116″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” onclick=”link_image”][vc_column_text]Just like Jeryn Hogarth was changed to Jeri Hogarth for the Netflix show Jessica Jones, the villain Ghost was gender-swapped for the Ant-Man sequel. Played by Hannah John-Kamen, the British actress expresses excitement for her debut as the main antagonist. In the comics, Ghost had never really been fleshed out into a well-rounded character, so she hopes to improve on that in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

“We thought that was a cool opportunity to create a character that was all about mystery and kind of, ‘What are the origins? and ‘What is the backstory? What is the goals and agendas of this person’?” Ant-Man and the Wasp producer Stephen Broussard stated.

As the first movie after Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and The Wasp looks to be just as much fun as its predecessor, with the new dynamic of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) fighting alongside Hope Pym (Evangeline Lily). We’ll see what John-Kamen brings to the screen as Ghost, but from the trailers, I’m betting this will be yet another success for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Ant-Man sequel premieres in theaters on July 6, 2018.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
