George R.R. Martin Describes How Game of Thrones Series Changed His Life

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”22442″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Game of Thrones has ended. It almost feels like a void has been left in our hearts. Despite the questionable ending, we’re still talking about the HBO hit series.

Game of Thrones wouldn’t have been a thing if it weren’t for George R.R. Martin. But, the series had outlasted the books, which are not complete yet. Martin himself has spoken about how not only will the ending of his series be different than the television show, but how the show has changed his life. Not so much for the better in some aspects:

“There were a couple of years where, if I could have finished the book, I could have stayed ahead of the show for another couple of years, and the stress was enormous,” he says. “I don’t think it was very good for me, because the very thing that should have speeded me up actually slowed me down. Every day I sat down to write and even if I had a good day — and a good day for me is three or four pages — I’d feel terrible because I’d be thinking: ‘My God, I have to finish the book. I’ve only written four pages when I should have written 40.’”

Martin added:

“having the show finish is freeing, because I’m at my own pace now. I have good days and I have bad days and the stress is far less, although it’s still there.”

Let’s hope that we get another installment from Martin soon!
