While it was sad that CBS’s Ghosts only got ten episodes due to the writer’s strike, what we got was a great addition to this charming show. There were ups and downs, a fan favorite returned, new powers were discovered, and a very somber revelation about Betty was made. All in all, these ghosts and the livings continue to be a gem for weekly viewers.
No episode, though; should be talked about more than the finale. With Pete discovering his ability to travel, it’s nice getting a setting in Ghosts that isn’t at Woodstone. Though, Pete’s time away made him realize a few things, and those lessons, while poignant; helped deliver the biggest shock of all!
Spoilers Beyond this Point
Isaac left Nigel at the alter! The entire third season built up Isaac and Nigel’s soon-to-be nuptials. The two always felt like a good pair; with Isaac being the reason Nigel is dead and the two of them being on opposite sides of the Revolutionary War. Both had fantastic chemistry and Nigel helped Isaac realize who he really was. While there were signs that Isaac may have been feeling some level of doubt after experiencing the very good-looking stripper, it didn’t feel like the show was heading towards a breakup.
Now, that’s not a bad thing. It’s an important message to show that just because you think someone is right for you, it doesn’t mean they’re right for you forever. And while options can be limiting as a ghost, it doesn’t mean Isaac needs to overlook the signs that he and Nigel stepped out of the puppy love phase to realize they weren’t as alike as either thought. Opposites attract, sure; and that difference in interests can help enrich a couple, but if it’s not clicking, then it’s not clicking.
Isaac and Nigel may have split up, but it was great seeing the reunion of Thor and Flower. While it may have felt that the show was taking the easy way out by simply making the person who got “sucked off” one of the basement ghosts, it was good to have Flower back. And to have Thor put his foot down and finally admit his feelings and have them reciprocated was great. Love may not always work out in the ghost world, but it’s seemingly working out for these two.
And what a crazy cliffhanger to season three! Thankfully, Ghosts is confirmed for a fourth season and hopefully, we’ll go back to the nearly twenty episodes the first two seasons had. Things are bordering the terrifying and who knows where this revelation of Isaac’s past will lead. However, it is cool to see new concepts getting thrown in.

Only One Complaint
The ghosts really make up the show, with Sam and Jay sometimes feeling like just catalysts for the ghost stories. Sam was mostly a mouthpiece this season, but Jay had some good moments. And it was kind of cool to have him and Pete hang out, even if Jay couldn’t see him. It’d be nice if season four explored more of Sass’s ability to visit Jay in his dreams and if maybe Sam can garner a little bit of respect from the ghosts, as sometimes it really seems like she bends over backwards for them. It’d also be cool to see the opening of Jay’s restaurant on-site.
However, the biggest complaint was bringing in Pete’s wife Carol. The show felt like they made her a ghost to add some tension in the house, but then figured it didn’t click, so now Carol is mostly offscreen. While it’s understandable that they have Pete stand up for himself in not getting back with the woman who was cheating on him, this could have been a good opportunity for the two to speak honestly with each other, and maybe come to some level of peace now that they’re in the afterlife. Instead, Pete is still irked by Carol’s presence, Carol is really a bit of an annoying character, and now we know Pete’s children don’t have their parents around!
A Special Mention
Overall, it was a great season and the cliffhanger was worth it! This season really built up its side characters, like Nancy – the basement ghost. Who, honestly; is just as good as anyone else on that show. It seems like we’re going to get even more ghosts in season four and as always, it’s going to be exciting!
