The 81st Golden Globe Awards was at a new home this year at CBS following its departure from NBC and, thankfully for the former, the initial ratings are up significantly from last year.

Per Deadline, the ceremony pulled in 9.4 million live + same-day viewers, up 50 percent from the 2023 show. These are also just estimates and these numbers could increase once the final numbers are tallied. For CBS, this is a huge win given the fact that its last year on NBC attracted the lowest audience ever for the show.

What caused the increase? Last year on NBC the ceremony aired on a Tuesday which is a departure from its normal spot on Sunday spot that most viewers are accustomed to. CBS also aired the Globes following a big NFL doubleheader which likely boosted ratings for the ceremony.

More good news for CBS is that it’s the most-watched Golden Globes ceremony since 2020, surpassing the 6.9 million viewers that tuned in for the 2021 telecast. However, even though the 9.4 million viewers tuning in is good news for CBS, it’s still a far cry from the 18.3 million viewers that showed up for the 2020 ceremony.

The ceremony was also available to stream on Paramount+. Those numbers have yet to be released by the streamer.
