We at GVN aim to keep you informed of the newest and best in home entertainment week in and week out. For the week of April 11th, we have some of the most anticipated releases of the year finally making their way to our shelves. Read on to get the full rundown of what you should have on your wishlist, plus take a chance to check out what Michael and I are spotlighting on The Video Attic this week.
After handily becoming one of the most successful films of all time, and even mounting an (ultimately unsuccessful) Best Picture campaign at the Oscars, Peter Parker, Peter Parker and Peter Parker swing to 4K UHD Blu-Ray with Spider-Man: No Way Home from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The new release features over 80 minutes of special features including behind the scenes featurettes, blooper reels and alternate reality Easter Eggs. Check out the film our own Dom Fisher called “the most fun you will have had at a theater this year.”
Elsewhere in the land of 4K UHD, Arrow Video is serving up two classic films in lavish new packages that are not to be missed. First off we have Paul Verhoeven’s bloody sci-fi satire Robocop making its 4K debut from a 4K restoration of the film from the original camera negative with the Director’s Cut and Theatrical Cut in Dolby Vision. Plus, you get a slew of special features including multiple commentaries, cast interviews and more. Get your first look at this release in its SteelBook packaging in The Video Attic below.
Next up is the Arrow Video release of recent Oscar-winner Kenneth Branagh’s adaption of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein on 4K UHD and Blu-Ray from a 4K restoration of the original camera negatives. This film starring Robert De Niro, Helena Bonham Carter and many more talented performers is being presented with new commentary tracks, interviews with the creative team, documentaries and more.
Other notable contemporary films debuting this include Joaquin Phoenix’s emotional knockout C’mon C’mon from Mike Mills courtesy of Lionsgate, as well as the body-tripping Korean sci-fi action film Spiritwalker from Well Go USA. You can hear my thoughts on the latter on this week’s installment of The Video Attic below.
This is only a taste of the incredibly packed lineup you have to look forward to you this week. Be sure to check out the full list below after checking out The Video Attic where we discuss the 2022 installment of Scream, upcoming titles from The Criterion Collection, some throwback horror guilty pleasure and more.
