We at GVN aim to keep you informed of the newest and best in home entertainment week in and week out. For the week of May 2nd, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get the full rundown of what you should have on your wishlist, plus take a chance to check out what Michael and I are spotlighting on The Video Attic this week.
This week welcomes several recent releases to home entertainment. First up, we have the newest Pixar favorite Turning Red debuting on physical media. We recently had a chance to check out the heartwarming tale on 4K UHD Blu-Ray, and we could not have been more impressed. Be sure to pick up that release for its stunning High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos audio, not to mention a fine assortment of special features including an audio commentary from director Domee Shi, producer Lindsey Collins, and director of photography Mahyar Abousaeedi.
Elsewhere in the world of animation, Warner Bros. is releasing DC’s patently not-kid-friendly Constantine: The House of Mystery on Blu-Ray. In addition to the new DC Showcase, this release also features the shorts Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth!, The Losers and Blue Beetle. Be sure to listen to Mike and I discuss the release on this week’s Video Attic below to find out what we think.
Adult dramas are becoming more rare every year, but this week Universal Pictures has two new ones to add to the collection. Liam Neeson continues his trend of popping up once or twice a year with an action-thriller filled with serviceable action and a lackluster script. Will Blacklight continue the trend, or might this one be something better than we have become accustomed to? We will be finding out for ourselves very soon. What we ARE excited about is the Mary Rylance intimate crime drama The Outfit, which our own Tristian Evans gave a glowing reviewer earlier this year here.
This is only a taste of the incredibly packed lineup you have to look forward to you this week. Be sure to check out the full list below after checking out The Video Attic where we discuss Wes Craven’s werewolf tale Cursed, the Jim Carrey comedy classic Liar Liar, the musical classic Singin’ In The Rain on 4K UHD, recent releases from Warner Archive and Kino Lorber and much more.
