We at GVN aim to keep you informed of the newest and best in home entertainment week in and week out. For the week of May 23rd, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get the full rundown of what you should have on your wishlist, plus take a chance to check out what Michael and I are spotlighting on The Video Attic this week.
This week welcomes a wide array of recent and classic films to home entertainment. Horror fans are going to have an especially exciting week with all the new titles hitting the shelves. The recent A24 slasher throwback X from director Ti West hits Blu-Ray where you can revisit the gory goodness again and again. If the supernatural is more your speed, Sandra Oh stars in the Sam Raimi-produced ghostly tale Umma from Sony. Things are not ALL serious, though, as the mad lads in The Foo Fighters get more than they bargained for in the darkly comedic Studio 666 newly out on Blu-Ray from Universal. In a welcome change of pace, Warner Bros. is rectifying a recent wrong by giving the unhinged Malignant from director James Wan a proper 4K UHD Blu-Ray months after only releasing the film on Blu-Ray.
Scream Factory is once again serving up a pair of genre favorites on 4K UHD that you are going to be powerless to resist. First up, Tobe Hooper delivers a pulse-pounding sci-fi thriller with Lifeforce. The new 3-disc Collector’s Edition features the Theatrical Cut of the film newly scanned in 4K from the Original Camera Negative plus the Director’s Cut on Blu-Ray! You better check how many times you say his name when the original horror classic Candyman starring Tony Todd and Virginia Madsen hit 4K UHD with both cuts of the film in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio. This particular release is already in the running for one of our favorites of the entire year.
This is only a taste of the incredibly packed lineup you have to look forward to you this week. Be sure to check out the full list below after checking out The Video Attic where we discuss the GKIDS release of the new animated film Belle, the 4K UHD releases of the Clint Eastwood spaghetti western classics A Fistful Of Dollars and For A Few Dollars More, the Eddie Murphy action-comedy sequel Beverly Hills Cop II, new releases from Kino Lorber, Arrow Video, Warner Archive and more.
