In Case You Missed It
With so many different creators and comics available for perusal these days, it is practically impossible to catch up to everything. Of course, that’s the plus of being presented projects that no doubt might have been missed. Such is the case of Source Point Press’ series Corollary. As written by Adam Rose and with art by Robert Ahmad, Corollary tells the tale of pair of twins. Well…they started OUT as twins. Its an unusual story. All the more reason to check it out.
Corollary, Issue 1
In this science fiction narrative, things come in twos. Twin planets, moons, and people. But the known quotient of the galaxy is, when one of the twins die, the other one does too. This is accepted and expected. There have been no exceptions. Until now. It has been revealed that a surviving twin has been discovered. The novelty of this concept has made for curiosity the galaxy over. How has the female named Andromeda survived when her twin Cass had not? Killed in gladatorial style combat against the creature whose mate had been killed by their parents.
Self Defense
This had been the results of their parents confrontation with the alien pair who had plans on eating them. The ensuing battle had resulted the death of the female alien and a life sentence for them. Regardless of the fact that it was done in self-defense. Although it could have been worse, they were originally sanctioned for death. From that moment forward, Andromeda and Cass had been trying to collect enough resources to buy their parent’s freedom. At least until Cass met with her unfortunate demise. At least that is what it appears on the surface.
Hot Commodity
Andromeda had been circumventing the galaxy, looking for odd jobs to earn the resources they needed. The fact that she was a surviving twin made her a “hot Commodity.” Everyone wanted to know how she has survived once her twin was gone. Sort of…
Sharing
As it turns out, while Cass’s body had been decimated, her head and the brain within was still intact…for the moment. Once Andromeda recovered it, they decided that they would share Andromeda’s body. Transferring their brains back and forth so each had the use of it…one twin at a time. Not the most elegant solution but, hey…it’s science fiction at its best. (Think “Spock’s Brain”) But the goal remained the same, retrieve their imprisoned parents. And if the notariety of being a surviving twin helped to pave that way, who were they to argue.

Corollary, Issue 2
After making the transfer with Cass taking control of their shared body, they needed to contact the prison warden where their parents were being held. They thought perhaps they had earned enough to secure their freedom. Not quite. As it turned out, it was the Warden who had been shopping the “miracle surviving twin” story out there for profit. While it had allowed Andromeda and Cass to earn a great deal of “orb credits,” it apparently wasn’t quite enough. They would need one more performance…or lie as the girls knew it to be.
Twin Suspicions
But before they could pursue one last appearance, they needed to finish their present one on the Planet Corollary. There was a banquet they/she was supposed to attend. However, the High Council of Corollary suspected that the “miracle surviving twin” was a ruse. They believed that there was still two of them. But they had no evidence of it, yet. It was decided that a challenge to battle would be initiated at the banquet. What that would prove, who knew. If anything it might provide entertainment.
Jiminy Cricket Drone
With Cass attending the banquet, Andomeda chose to come along as a bug like drone. Usually, the dormant sister would inhabit their ship’s computer. But Andromeda wanted to keep an eye on Cass. Just what Cass needed…a drone bug conscious. Hello, Jiminy Cricket!
A Challenge
As Cass arrived, the Corollary discussed the fight that had “killed” Cass. They admitted that they hadn’t been that impressed by Cass and her fighting skills. Cass, for her part, marveled that Andromeda had shown them her getting mauled. How RUDE! The Corollary representatives wondered if the surviving twin had better fighting skills. Not needing more of an invitation, Cass suggested they test her. It was a good thing that Cass came dressed for a fight.
Concession
As the fight ensues, Cass does well intially considering it is two against one, until she is cut on the shoulder by one of her combatants axes. Andromeda decides to intervene, distracting her opponents until Cass gets the upperhand and unarms them. They concede and admit that her fighting skills were worthy and perhaps, she was not being as deceitful as they imagined. Cass had no idea what thet were referring to but accepted this and decided it was time to leave for their next destination.
The Price for Deception
But after Cass and Andromeda left Corollary, the same two combatants left soon after to follow them. Attaching a listening device to the “twins” ship. They still believed there was deception afoot and the price for that would be a “galactic execution.” That seems to be this galaxy’s answer for EVERYTHING.

Thoughts
Source Point Press Corollary has a lot going for it. An unusal story as constructed by writer Adam Rose and a fresh artistic presence by Robert Ahmad. The combination makes for a unique book with a organic art feel that reflects a more traditional comic feel. Ahmad’s illustrations with their ink on paper and watercolor feel bring back nostalgic memories of old. Even the panels reflect this more hands on approach. With digital being more widely used, it is a welcome homage to simpler times. I found it quite refreshing.
Fresh Always Welcome
The story itself also treads some new ground with emphasis on taking advantage of the wide expanse of what is possible in science fiction. Things like cities on the backs of Space Dragons and the fascination of surviving twins. Rose flexes his creative muscles on this one for some fun effect. Never hurts to think outside the box. Fresh is ALWAYS welcome.
