Last Time
So, when we last left Sebastian and the Grand Race, Seb had learned a valuable lesson about accepting candy from strangers. Especially those that expand one’s mind in more ways than just knowledge. In fact, he was so out of it, he didn’t even notice the danger he was in from the Dogheads. Probably not such a horrible thing. If he did, he would probably have stressed out in a big way. As it was, he was oblivious to it. Mind altering chocolate is a wonderful thing.
Coming to a “Dog” Head
Seb is not the only target of the Dog Heads. His big sister Shane is having her own run in with the group. Not surprising since they are being paid by the Autocrat. Their goal is to wreak havoc and eliminate as many racers as they can. But in the world of the Grand Race, things are never completely what they seem. Especially when those being used by the Autocrat have become “sick” and tired of the way they are treated. You kick a dog enough times, and they rebel.
The Plot Thickens
However, as one might expect, the Autocrat doesn’t like interference. He has one goal and one goal alone: Control! And the further Seb and Shane get into the race, the more they realize what the Autocrat will do to maintain it. Using intimidation and sickness to maintain his grip on Europe. Unless someone stops him.
Working Together
That’s where Seb and Shane find themselves. Stuck in the middle and perhaps the only ones between the Autocrat and his goal. Battling a created impending disease and those the despotic mad man sends to stop them. At stake? An opportunity to possibly win the race and take out the Autocrat in the process. But it will take them working together. With only 268 miles to the finish line.

Thoughts
Issue 4 is where Ryan Lyndsay has everything coming to a massive head. Plots and sub plots are revealed, and it all comes down to the Autocrat doing everything in his power to maintain the status quo. Which means he maintains control and his idyllic town of Odense remains the seat of his power. A goal for the hungry and destitute but forever out of reach. Lyndsay has built up the drama, leading up to what will no doubt be a powerful conclusion.
Artwork
With the story tensions building, it has given artist Emanuele Paranscandolo free reign to push the envelope of the action. He has proven up to the challenge, with explosions, car crashes and dynamic panel energy. And even a heartfelt moment where required. When combined with Michele Monte’s Colors and of course the consistently brilliant lettering of Joamette Gil, it all comes together. Nice work.
