GVN Talking Comics Preview: Mad Cave Studios, ‘Nottingham: King’s Ransom’ Vol. 2, #6 by David Hazan and Shane Connery Volk

Nottingham, Vol. 1

When Mad Cave Studios introduced their new series Nottingham by David Hazan and Shane Connery Volk, they had high hopes for the series. What they got was something beyond what they could possibly have imagined. Nottingham was an instant hit, with copies flying off shelves and reprints common place. It easily hit our best of 2021 list and the only question that remained was what creators Hazan and Volk would do for an encore. Well coming April 6th, Mad Cave and the creative team behind the runaway train (or herd of horses) that was Nottingham returns with Nottingham: Kings Ransom, Vol.2 of the Nottingham Saga.

Mad Cave Synopsis

Richard the Lionheart is kidnapped and ransomed by Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI. Needing a loyal man, and one who could be blamed if he failed, Everard Blackthorne, the Sheriff of Nottingham, is strongarmed into delivering the ransom and bringing the King home. The penalty for his failure would be of death. In truth, the treacherous Prince John and his ally, King Phillip of France, would stop at nothing to ensure Richard remains in captivity. Facing such poor odds, the Sheriff finds the unlikeliest of allies in none other than Robin Hood and the Merry Men. Meanwhile, with Robin and the Sheriff away, Marian hatches her own devious plan to take back Nottingham. If that means, stabbing Robin in the back, it’s the price he pays for turning it.

A Cast of Characters

All of the characters that made Nottingham so fresh and original return. The most prominent being Ev Blackthorne, the beleaguered Sheriff of Nottingham. Who once again finds that loyalty and doing the right thing is in short supply in Nottingham. Robin of Loxley and his band of Merry Men return, still bringing their own brand of justice to the realm. And of course, the lovely Maid Marian who might be more cutthroat than any man in Nottingham. Add these to King Richard, Prince John, King Phillip, Eleanor of Aquitaine and Lord Guy Gisbourne and you have the opportunity of treachery at every Glenn. What else would you expect in Hazan and Volk’s Nottingham: Kings Ransom.
