Jody Houser can do no wrong in my eyes. Jody Houser has this sweet/comfortable vibe to her storytelling that is refreshing. Especially nowadays, all you read or watch are depressing stories, which are essential but can get a little too much at times. Many people do not like the relationship between Harley Quinn and the Joker but personal I love the connection. Not because they are cute together, but because of the growth Harley gains when she decides to leave him. Now the dynamic between Harley and Poison is engaging because of how cute they are together.
The art matches the vibe of the story, and it doesn’t feel disjointed at all; it feels consistent all the way through, unlike how I felt with DCEASED A Good Way to Die. Jody Houser (W), Adriana Melo(P), Mark Morales(I), and Hi-Fi (C) genuinely understand each other style. Not only do they complement each other so well. Panels, where Harley gets Jealous, angry, or worried, are adorable and hilarious, you can tell they compliment each other perfectly. One is calm and collected, and the other is Hyperactive and super emotional. Not a big fan of the villain design but I have changed my mind once before, so maybe it will grow on me the more we get through the next couple issues.
Now the big question, is this an issue you should buy? Yes, because of character dynamic, a great refreshing vibe in storytelling, and gorgeous art. Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy #1 is a definite buy.
