Hawkeye Finale Review: ‘Yes…This Is This Year’s Best Marvel Show’

Prior to 2021, I was excited for a flew of Marvel shows on Disney Plus. WandaVision, Loki, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier…the Hawkeye series was at the bottom of the barrel. Hawkeye is just a character I really never gravitated to in the MCU and I really didn’t see a point in giving him a solo show. However, after every other show let me down (well, WandaVision didn’t really let me down – it just went through some rough patches), Hawkeye is my favorite out of them all. Not solely due to Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, but because of everything. The pace, the story, the cinematography, the characters…just everything.

Slight Spoilers

This show really delivered. I could go on about the entire show, but I’m just going to talk about the finale. Finally, I feel like we have a finale that’s been properly built up to. We get to see what Kate’s mom Eleanor has to do with everything, we get some epic battle scenes, and some epic comic-book accurate moments. Plus…I’m just going to say it – KINGPIN IS BACK! Oh, it was so good seeing Vincent D’Onofrio again. And he’s just as good as ever as Wilson Fisk. What’s really nice, at least in this series; is that he translated well into the bigger MCU. While the Daredevil show loosely connected to the MCU, the Hawkeye series directly connects to the movie universe and there was nothing out of place about Fisk being there.

The Best Chemistry

I cannot stress enough how enjoyable I find Kate Bishop. Not only did I love her in this whole series, but especially the finale. She has everything it takes to be a hero, while holding onto her humanity. She’s funny, tough, still learning, and have I mentioned how much I loved her interactions with Yelena? I praised Florence Pugh as Yelena before, but she too translated well into a show – showing she isn’t just tied to the Black Widow franchise. Pugh stood out on her own as Yelena, but also worked well with Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate. I definitely need a fun special with them together?

Rating: 4.7/5

The Hawkeye finale was unexpected, but also incredibly satisfying. Except for the post-credit scene, I think this was a near-perfect finale. I cannot believe that the HAwkeye show would be my favorite, but I’m ready to eat my words. I’m so excited to see more Kate Bishop in the future and I think she’s a great character to take up the mantle of Hawkeye. Also, cannot wait for the Echo series! Alaqua Cox truly stood out this season and she’s going to do great heading her own series.
