HBO Cancels ‘Run’ After One Season

HBO has decided to not give the show Run another season. The romantic thriller starred Domhnall Gleeson and Merritt Wever. The two played former lovers who agreed to drop whatever they were doing to reunite with each other if someone else texted the other ‘RUN’. This meant even dropping a husband and kids to go on a train ride across the country. The first season had seven episodes and that seems to be all it will get.

Run ended its first season a month and a half ago. HBO issued a statement:

“After exploring potential ways of continuing Ruby and Billy’s journey, together with showrunner Vicky Jones, we have come to the decision that we will not be moving forward with a second season of Run.”

To be honest, I had watched Run myself. While Wever is an incredibly underrated actress, I felt it was hard to root for a character who tosses away her adulthood responsibilities for a teenage promise. Gleeson’s character was unlikeable and the concept itself was just okay. Other viewers may have liked it, considering it earned an 80% “Fresh” Rotten Tomatoes rating. So, surely, this will be upsetting news for them. Especially since there was more story to tell. Perhaps a chance to come down to reality. It seems, though; the show will never get that chance.
