A woman with a contemplative expression rests her head on her hand while seated at a dining table with a glass of white wine in front of her.

HBO Max is planning another original pilot. Two to be exact. One is Red Bird Lane, which comes from John Wells. This will be a young adult drama that is described as a mortality and psychological horror show. Following eight strangers who arrive at an abandoned house, they will all realize that they are not alone. Something truly sinister waits for them.

Rules of Magic, a Practical Magic prequel; picked up a sizable pilot along with an additional 10-script order. This drama will be set in New York City in the 1960s. It will follow three troubled siblings, Franny, Jet, and Vincent Owens; who all struggles with “abnormalities” that has kept them separated from society. That is then until they find out they are descendants of a bloodline of witches. We will follow the siblings as they discover and accept themselves. Along the way, they will deal with grief, war, bigotry, and dark magic. As well as a curse that has been put in place to keep them away from love. Franny and Jet will become the aunts in Practical Magic, while Vincent will “leave an unexpected legacy”.

Along with these two projects will be the one half-hour dramedy called Generation. Lena Dunham executive produces. This project is described as dark, but playful. Dramedy follows a group of high school students who will explore modern sexuality and therefore test the boundaries of life, love, and family in their conservative community. Zelda Barnz (who is seventeen) will pen the script with her father, Daniel Barnz. He will produce alongside husband Ben Barnz.

What do you think about these three projects slated for HBO Max?
