HBO Max will be the new streaming service, including being the home for all programs from The CW. Previously, Netflix was the home for this content, but it’s being pulled out and will be housed at HBO Max.
What to Expect on HBO Max
On top of this, there will also be feature films available on HBO Max, from Greg Berlanti and Reese Witherspoon. This new service will launch in the spring of 2020, with 10,000 hours of premium content. WarnerMedia paid $85 million per year for five years to pull Friends from Netflix, so now the hit show has a new home. On top of this, HBO Max will be the exclusive stop to watch all of the episodes of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Pretty Little Liars.
For clarification, The CW show Batwoman will land on HBO Max. Riverdale, The Flash, and other current CW series will continue to be on Netflix until their wrap up their runs. Batwoman and Katy Keene will not be available on Max until 30 days before the next season premieres. Netflix typically landed the current seasons eight days after a season finale aired.
Berlanti’s Projects
Berlanti will be producing four original young adult films for HBO Max. Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine banner will produce a pair of features for the streaming services.
Berlanti commented:
“What I’ve always loved about creating shows that connect with a young audience is that these fans grow up with the programs and will remember them for the rest of their lives. Now I get to do even more of that for HBO Max, where viewers will be able to discover shows on their own time, in their own way. Like any great novel, these shows will be there waiting for you. As a fan, what I’m personally most excited to watch on the service are all the great Warner Bros. movies that affected our entire culture and changed the way we live.”
Since WarnerMedia owns HBO, HBO Max will feature library content from the WarnerMedia outlets that including Warner Bros, New Line, DC Entertainment, CNN, TNT, TBS, TruTV, Turner Classic Movies, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and more. HBO also has series that are set to stream on HBO Max such as Watchmen, The Outsider (from Stephen King), J.J. Abrams-Jordan Peele’s Lovecraft Country, Joss Whedon’s The Nevers, David Simon’s The Plot Against America and Insecure.
Game of Thrones
For Game of Thrones fans, HBO Max will feature the entire series. George R. R. Martin hopes that his prequel series will find a home on HBO Max as well:

A Game of Thrones and its sequels were too big, too complex, too dark, too sexy, with a cast of thousands, gigantic battles, massive castles, direwolves, ice wights, and dragons. I should have remembered, ‘It’s not television, it’s HBO.’ Working with HBO during the past decade has been a dream come true. they did could not be done, but they did it anyway. And now they are embarked on a new venture. No, they won’t be tying their shows to the legs of ravens as I suggested … instead, they are launching an exciting new streaming platform that will carry all the great HBO programming around the world … classic old shows and thrilling new shows, including (I hope) a return to my world of Westeros. Sign me up!”
HBO Max will also include the likes of Dune: The Sisterhood, Tokyo Vice starring Ansel Elgort, The Flight Attendant, Love Life, and a Gremlins animated prequel series.
