HBO Max Developing ‘THE FINAL GIRL’ Adaptation With Charlize Theron and Andy & Barbara Muschietti Producing

It’s a great day for horror fans! According to Deadline, HBO Max is developing The Final Girl, a TV series based on Grady Hendrix’s The Final Girl Support Group. The streamer is developing the project alongside Charlize Theron’s Denver & Delilah Films, Andy & Barbara Muschietti’s Double Dream, and Aperture Entertainment.

Hendrix’s novel focuses on Lynette Tarkington, a member of a support group for six women who survived brutal massacres. In the novel, these “Final Girls” served as the inspiration for multiple famous horror films. When a member of the group is brutally murdered, Lynette fears a killer is targeting Final Girls. And it’s a race against time as she works to uncover the culprit before it’s too late.

There is no information about potential casting or a release date. And it is unclear how closely the show will adapt Hendrix’s novel. For now, we know that Andy Muschietti will direct the pilot. He will also serve as an executive producer alongside Barbara Muschietti, Charlize Theron, AJ Dix, Beth Kono, Andrew Haas, Adam Goldworm, and Grady Hendrix.
