Henry Cavill Details His Love for Video Games

Henry Cavill may seem larger than life, but his interests may be more similar to yours than you think. While celebrities often enjoy the nightlife, going out, and extravagant parties, the Witcher star seems to enjoy what most of us geeks do. Staying home and playing video games. It would make sense that a man so dedicated to bringing Geralt of Rivia to life would be an avid gamer. What’s his game of choice? Total War: Warhammer II.

According to GQ, Cavill would rather be home playing Total War: Warhammer II in his T-shirt and shorts. Gaming on his PC we should add. Apparently, he’s played through the game six times. Cavill loves escapist gaming, something that has helped him during the sometimes invasive paparazzi attacks:

“Every time I step out my front door, I’m hyper-aware. Even if I’m not looking terrible, you still realize there are people taking sneaky photos of you, because that’s what people like to do. And then they put them on the internet and you see them on Instagram and you’re like, ‘Oh, my god.’”

He adds:

“At home, I get to sit playing games for ridiculous amounts of hours and escape there, because going outside has the opposite effect.”

Cavill is such a gaming fan that he’s wanted to play Geralt since, pretty much forever:

“My first involved experience [with the franchise] was The Witcher 3.”

And what makes The Witcher series on Netflix so good? The source material:

“It’s based on a fleshed-out character. Yes, you make decisions in the game, but it’s fairly unique within the gaming world. There’s a bit more of a character here. I want to do it as true to the lore as possible. For me it was about bringing my love for the character to the show, as a fan – I want to protect it. It would’ve hurt my heart to hear there was a show that I didn’t jump on, [especially] if someone else had a unique and perhaps even brilliant interpretation of Geralt, but one not who I, as a fan, sees.”

Gaming has been something Cavill has enjoyed for most of his life. He reminisces about video games with his brothers and even though Cavill has become a mega-star for both The Witcher and his role as Superman, he’d still rather be at home playing video games:

“There’s just something about those games that I find so satisfying. There’s new DLCs coming out all the time and I’m looking forward to whatever the next one is.”
