Do you feel as though your musical talent is somewhat lacking? Maybe you feel as though you’d like to try and take things to that next level but you just don’t know how to go about doing it. Either way, this guide will show you how you could step up your game and become better at what you do.

    Practice More

Every musician out there probably wishes they could practice more often, but sometimes, life gets in the way. If you want to help yourself then one thing you can do is carve out some time to practice. This won’t work for everyone, especially if you are the type of musician who likes to play whenever the inspiration comes along, but if there is a specific technique you want to master then repetition is key. If you are unable to find more time to practice then try and practice smarter. Take note of your weak spots, and find skills, or things you’d like to improve and develop. If you can do this, and if you can split your practice sessions up, then you are bound to see an improvement.

    Learn a New Song

Have you ever heard a song, and hoped that one day, you’d be able to learn it? Sometimes the biggest and the best way for you to see an improvement in your music would be for you to connect with something ahead of your skill level. Try and move past your comfort zone and attempt something that requires a bit more focus than usual. Everyone hits barriers from time to time, and if you feel like you aren’t advancing as you should, this can drag you down. If you can nail a song that happens to incorporate a difficult technique then this will give you the boost you’re looking for. It may be that you buy new tech to support your playing too, such as a drum beat machine.

    Finish your Rig

Do you sometimes feel as though the sound you have is incomplete? If this is the case then you should start focusing on filling your rig with the effect you are looking for. When things sound good, your playing will too. Play around with some tones and find what you are missing from your setup. Guitarists and keyboard players normally have access to a wide range of gear and this is a great way for you to add to your sound. Effects pedals are great, but so are tremolo stomp boxes.

    Explore Genres

Why not take the time to inject some new music into your playlist? Listening to a range of genres is a fantastic way for you to branch out your influences.  If you have Spotify then this is a very useful resource that you can use to find music similar to what you are listening to, right now. You may find that you get new inspiration this way and that you can push the limits with your musical understanding. If you can do this now, you can be sure to reap the benefits in the future.
