History of Roulette
Before we begin, it’s always useful to know the history of the game you wish to play.
The first findings of the iconic Roulette wheel were actually invented by mistake in the 17th century, after French inventor and scientist Blaise Pascal tried to create a perpetual motion machine.
Up until the mid-19th century, the Roulette wheel remained the same since its invention, containing both a single zero pocket as well as a double zero pocket. However, that all changed in 1842, when French brothers Francois and Louis Blanc redesigned the wheel, removing the double zero pocket, which in turn lowered the house edge. The new, lower house edge proved to be a favourite amongst players, and soon became known as European Roulette.
Surprisingly, after sailing across the seas to America, the lower house edge and single zero wheel wasn’t as enjoyed by players in the States, so they added the double zero back to the wheel. This version is called American Roulette.
The table
The Roulette table is arranged into two sections: the inside and the outside. The inside area has 36 numbered squares which are either red or black. The outside area has boxes that cover a broader range of numbers – odd or even. At the top of the table, there’s a large zero or double zero, depending on the version of game you’re playing. You can bet on any of the squares on the table, or even a combination of them.
How to play online
- Place your bet – This means you chose your chip size and place your chip/s on the bet that you’d like to make.
- Spin the wheel – With online Roulette, there’s no waiting around. So, whenever you’re ready, hit the ‘spin’ button. This will release the ball into the virtual wheel.
- The outcome – The wheel will come to a stop and the ball will settle into a pocket. Online Roulette games use a Random Number Generator (RNG) to determine the outcome.
- The result – This is the exciting part; so hold your breath. This will tell you whether you have lost, or won. The next round begins after the result, should you wish to continue playing.
