Not only are they a staple in Hip-hop culture but American as well. The group is unmatched, with their grimy, captivating lyrics and immaculate storytelling. Coupled with, dusty boom-bap instrumentals, they embody the “golden age” of hip-hop. They are arguably the most influential and respected MC collectives propelling them into becoming pop-culture icons all over the world.
Hulu has just released a teaser trailer for an upcoming drama series based on the group called Wu-Tang: An American Saga. According to Deadline, it will be a 10 episode series created and written by Wu-Tang member RZA and Superfly writer Alex Tse. The show seems to follow the groups found members, The RZA, The GZA, Ol’Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and Method Man. Taking place in the slums of Shaolin in the early 90s, the young men seem to struggle with choosing between street life and a music career.
Furthermore, the series has an all-star cast including hip-hop artist Dave East and Joey Bada$$. Also starring Shameik Moore, Siddiq Saunderson, Marcus Callender, Julian Elijah Martinez, Zolee Griggs, Erika Alexander, TJ Atoms, and Johnell Young. All members of the group played a part as consulting producers with RZA and Method Man executive producing. Additionally, Imagine Television’s Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo will also executive produce with Tse and Zisk. The Hulu original will premiere on September 4, 2019, exclusively on Hulu. The streaming service will release the first three episodes on the premiere date with the remaining ones dropping weekly.
I for one am mad hype about this series. If you’re not, you better Protect Ya Neck because Wu-Tang is forever.
