But as the competition intensifies, the show’s slick producer pushes her to spin her family’s struggle into spectacle, forcing Margarita to decide whether to play along or take control of her own narrative, one unhinged look at a time.

Video Quality

Idiotka comes to Blu-Ray with a really fetching 1080p video presentation that looks as great as any modern movie should. The presentation showcases a significant amount of depth on display, especially in the facility where the competition show is being filmed. The production design along with the fabrics of all-important clothing provide crystal clear textural details. The image is crisp and clean with the vibrant color palette shining off the screen. The film deploys bold splashes of colors within the production design and fabrics, which makes for a very lovely image. The black levels are appropriately deep with no discernible digital noise, and the highlights are kept from clipping. The flesh tones are natural with a magnificent amount of detail present in close-ups. This Blu-Ray is a top-tier representation of this movie.

Audio Quality

This Blu-Ray comes with a pleasant DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that brings this material to life as desired. Dialogue is the driving force of the film, and it always comes through clearly without being overshadowed by any parallel sounds. This is a film that utilizes music really well with a bouncy soundtrack that shines on this disc. The tunes fill the speakers in a prominent, well-balanced way. There is little in the way of traditional action moments, but the environmental sounds of the world engage the surround speakers effectively. When the characters are bustling around the set, some nice ambient details flesh out the setting. Certain needle drops and sound effects engage the low end of the track in a way that provides some welcome texture to the proceedings. The audio track more than gets the job done. Optional English SDH subtitles are provided.

Q&As: A trio of Q&As is provided featuring two main panels with the director and the ensemble, along with one conversation strictly with director Nastasya Popov. In these conversations, you learn about the origins of the project, the casting process, what they wanted to say with this story, the fashion in the film and much more that is very illuminating.

Final Thoughts

Idiotka is a funny and touching tale of perseverance and attempting to live your dream in the face of numerous obstacles. Anna Baryshnikov is great in the lead role, bringing a charming relatability to this character who is trying to keep several balls in the air at once. The script does not bring anything groundbreaking to the table, but it does a fine job of nailing the proper emotions and keeping you invested in the journey. We hope this one gets more eyeballs on it with this new release. Utopia has released a new Blu-Ray featuring a top-notch A/V presentation and a fine selection of supplemental features. Recommended
