The American band, who formed in 2009; has put out a song called Zero for the upcoming Disney movie Ralph Breaks the Internet. The sequel Wreck-It Ralphs, Zero will be featured in the movie’s soundtrack album, which is available today from KIDinaKORNER/Interscope Records. Imagine Dragon’s lead singer Dan Reynolds wanted to capture the emotional themes of the movie in the song Zero. As we know, Ralph formed a friendship with Vanellope von Schweetz; two misfits who are stronger when they work together than when they try to venture off solo.
“It’s a pretty timely movie in a lot of ways in that it addresses some of the issues of identity and loneliness unique to this internet generation,” says Reynolds. “Ralph’s internal struggle for self-acceptance really resonated with us, and this song speaks to that.”
Director Rich Moore then added:
“It’s a bold choice for an end-credit song because it’s about someone who feels like a zero, someone who hasn’t always felt worthy, someone who’s allowed his entire sense of self to rely on a single friendship. When that friendship is threatened, there’s a lot of insecurity.”
Both Moore and Reynolds have stated that the purpose of the song was to not only show that you are not alone but to also have a song that you can dance to. Ralph is a character very much trying to find his place within the game world, so Zero is something that perfectly helps tie all of what defines Ralph into a lyrical piece.
