In Honor of ‘Movember’: Some of the Best Hollywood Mustaches

We are in the middle of ‘Movember’. If you don’t know what this special time of year is, this is the definition provided by Wikipedia:

Movember (a portmanteau of the Australian-English diminutive word for moustache, “mo”, and “November”) is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as Anxiety, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide.[2] The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com. The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health.”

Since it is a tradition for men to outgrow their facial hair in Movember, we are all gifted with beautiful displays of mustaches to fawn over. In this article, I thought it would be fun to highlight some celebrity mustaches. This article is purely a matter of perspective and I would like to know who you think has a glorious mustache that needs to be celebrated.

This article is in no particular order.

Burt Reynolds in ‘Smokey and the Bandit’

In general, Burt Reynolds had a great mustache in pretty much anything he was in. It was particularly glorious though during his days in Smokey and the Bandit. We miss Reynolds and his beautiful upper lip hair.

Keith Carradine in ‘Deadwood’

It’s hard to tell what’s more glorious about Keith Carradine’s portrayal as Wild Bill in HBO’s Deadwood. His hair or his mustache. Wild Bill may have only been in the first three or four episodes of the series, but his memory and facial hair lived in the show and our hearts.

Peter Scanavino in ‘Law and Order: SVU’

Peter Scanavino has been on SVU since season sixteen. While his character was only supposed to be there temporarily, he’s been a staple the past few years. Now on its 21st season, viewers may forget how far Sonny Carisi has come. When Scanavino first graced SVU, he donned an epic mustache that was gone far too soon.

Pablo Schreiber in ‘Orange is the New Black’

One of the most recognizable mustaches in recent pop culture is Pornstache in Netflix’s Orange is the New Black. Pablo Schreiber’s character was not only a visual standout of the show, but one of the most iconic characters in the series.

Chris Evans in ‘Lobby Hero’

Doesn’t he look a little like Pornstache?

Most know Chris Evans as simply Captain America in the Marvel movies, but he’s so much more than that. This talented actor made his Broadway debut in ‘Lobby Hero’, where he sported a very full and beautiful mustache.

Jon Bernthal in ‘Wolf of Wall Street’

Did you really think I wasn’t going to include Jon Bernthal on this list? Bernthal’s facial hair was almost comical in ‘Wolf of Wall Street’, but it was also beautiful. His mustache and chin hair strip, paired with his tan let us know all we needed to about the character Brad and honestly, I needed more.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan in ‘Salvation’

While the movie ‘Salvation’ is not rated as one of my favorite Westerns, it’s a solid movie for anyone needing some ‘bad guy’ Jeffrey Dean Morgan content. Playing Delarue, in a role similar to the plot to the Magnificent Seven; Morgan rocked an epic mustache that simply made all the ladies swoon.

Peter Sarsgaard in ‘The Magnificent Seven’

I wasn’t going to mention it, but thinking about J.D. Morgan has me thinking about Peter Sarsgaard in the 2016 version of ‘The Magnificent Seven’. In what I would deem as a solid remake of the original movie, Sarsgaard plays bad guy Bartholomew Bogue. His mustache is full and glorious.

Wagner Moura in ‘Narcos’

The first two seasons of Netflix’s ‘Narcos’ were the best and that was due to Wagner Moura’s portrayal of the infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar. The real drug kingpin was responsible for horrific acts of violence, but Moura was responsible for bringing us grade-A acting and a solid mustache.

Scoot McNairy in ‘Godless’

In case you didn’t know, Scoot McNairy can grow up some glorious facial hair. From his roles as Gordon Clark in ‘Halt and Catch Fire’, Ronnie in ‘The Parts You Lose’, and Tom Purcell in ‘True Detective’ McNairy is no stranger to facial hair. But, it’s his mustache in Netflix’s ‘Godless’ that deserves to be on this list, for how absolutely perfect it is.

David Harbour in ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3

We love David Harbour as Jim Hopper in all seasons of ‘Stranger Things’. It’s season three, though; that gave us some serious Magnum P.I. mustaches feels. Just look at that beautiful mustache. It’s incredible. That’s all I have to say.

Robert Downey Jr. in ‘Iron Man’

I should simply say in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Besides Robert Downey Jr. simply being iconic as Tony Stark, it is his facial hair that especially makes him recognizable. The godfather of the MCU deserves to be on this list and all we have to say to his mustache is, we love you 3000.

Henry Cavill in ‘Mission Impossible: Fall Out’

This is the mustache that took down Justice League. As soon as that CGI coverup happened, I knew I had to look into that mustache. And you know what? Worth it. That mustache in Mission Impossible: Fall Out is friggin epic and Cavill himself was badass in that movie. I can’t wait to see him in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’, though; sadly, he doesn’t rock facial hair in it.

Tom Selleck in Anything

Since the dawn of time, Tom Selleck’s mustache has remained a beacon for all mustaches. An idol to be worshipped on a mustache alter. All other mustaches remain envious of the Selleck ‘stache. Seriously, whether Selleck is young or old, his mustache stays strong and for that, we salute you.

That was a long and epic list of some of my favorite mustaches. What are yours and are you celebrating Movember?
