With so many projects in the works for the Star Wars franchises and while many Star Wars fans are eagerly awaiting announcements about what could possibly be following Episode IX, some fans are far more excited about other things. For example, the upcoming live-action TV series being created by Jon Favreau. It promises to be the first of its kind for the galaxy far, far away. While there are very few details confirmed about the new series, it is thought that Favreau may have inferred on Twitter that he’s very close to starting production on the series.

On his twitter account, Favreau shared a photo of himself “Enjoying a day at the Ranch” with Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels producer Dave Filoni. This all but confirmed that he was working with members of Lucasfilm’s TV execs for the upcoming project. With Favreau’s involvement on the series having been announced months ago, it is suspected that the series could have been in development this entire time, perhaps targeting a production start in the near future.
That being said, there are a number of reasons Favreau may have been at Skywalker Ranch, though with Filoni having been an integral component of more than ten total seasons of animated series on his multiple series, few people understand episodic Star Wars storytelling as well as the producer. Thus it would certainly make sense for Favreau to be working with him on the new series.
Confirmed details about the series have been few and far between, as might be expected in the early stages but a handful of clues have already emerged about what audiences might expect from the series. This secrecy just amps the excitement up for the series that is expected to debut on Disney’s new streaming platform next year.
So what DO we know? Favreau himself confirmed that the series would take place between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Another report claims that the series would take place on Mandalore, which finds itself in a “state of turmoil” following the destruction of the second Death Star and the dissolve of the Galactic Empire after Emperor Palpatine’s death. If this were to be true, it could possibly coincide with stories about the conflicts on Mandalore that were explored briefly in both The Clone Wars and Rebels. That would be another reason for a meeting with Filoni who would be an invaluable resource if Favreau were developing such a narrative. Unfortunately, at this point, everything is but conjecture.
