It has been 3 years since the sequel to Dirty Dancing was announced and production on the film is expected to finally start this month in Atlanta, Georgia. Jonathan Levine will direct from a script he co-wrote with Elizabeth Chomko, Mikki Daughtry, and Tobias Iaconis.
Jennifer Grey who played Francis ‘Baby’ Houseman in the first movie will reprise her role in the sequel which is set in the 90s and will introduce a new generation to “dirty dancing”.
A source close to GVN has informed us that actress Isabel May is in talks to lead the film and will play Jennifer Grey’s daughter in the film. Isabel recently played Elsa Dutton in the Yellowstone spin-off, ‘1883’ and in such films as ‘The Moon and Back’ and ‘I Want You Back’.
The film will center Frances “Baby” Houseman as she returns to Kellerman’s in the 1990s. Like the original, the sequel will be a coming-of-age romance centered on the experience of a young woman at the summer camp, but Baby’s own journey will intertwine with this to create a multi-layered narrative. Jo takes a Summer job at a Catskills Resort. When she’s paired to partner with the star dancer performing for tourists, there’s instant chemistry between them.
Patrick Swayze was the male lead in the first film and though he has passed away there are reports that Levine wants to include him in the film in some manner. There are no reports currently on who will share the male lead in the sequel but stay tuned to Geek Vibes Nation as we continue to bring you news on the Dirty Dancing sequel.
The sequel to ‘Dirty Dancing’ is set to release in 2024.
