J.J. Abrams Shares New Image as ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Production Begins

It’s almost time to bid adieu to another Star Wars trilogy. Director J.J. Abrams posted an emotional tweet confirming that Star Wars: Episode IX has officially begun production!

Earlier this week, Lucasfilm released the cast for Episode IX that will wrap up the story of Kylo Ren and Rey. Abrams tweet, as you can see below, also hits a very real, somber fact: this will be the first production in this trilogy without Carrie Fisher.  Abrams also thanked Rian Johnson for his work on The Last Jedi, along with George Lucas for creating such a fantastic world. Johnson replied to the tweet in a way only a Star Wars director could: with the classic Han Solo gif of Solo saluting.

In what is tabbed to be the end of the Skywalker Saga, we will see the Resistance try to end the First Order once and for all. What will come of the struggle between the light side and the dark side of the force for Supreme Leader Kylo Ren? Will Rey become a Jedi Master and start her own Jedi temple to teach others? Will we truly lean of Rey’s parentage? So many questions could be answered in this film. Star Wars: Episode IX boasts an incredible cast returning plus the addition of Keri Russell and the return of Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. Mark Hamill is set to reprise his role as Luke Skywalker and thanks to Carrie Fishers daughter Billie, they will use unused footage from The Force Awakens to give her the proper send her off she deserves.

Star Wars: Episode 9 is set to release in December of 2019, and will return the likes of Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Domnhall Gleason, and Lupita Nyong’o. Joining the cast will be Billy Dee Williams, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher.
