Last year Netflix announced Cobra Kai would return for a sixth and final season. Around that same time Sony announced that Jonathan Entwistle would lead a new Karate Kid film that would continue from the original films and not the Karate Kid reboot in 2010 with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. The showrunners for Cobra Kai came out almost immediately and said they would not be involved with the new movie and neither Ralph Macchio nor William Zabka have mentioned being involved.

Fans have speculated it might be a spin-off with some of the characters from Cobra Kai including Xolo Mariduena, Tanner Buchanan, Peyon List and Jacob Bertrand.

A new report from DiscussingFilm kind of puts those rumors to rest as they are reporting Jackie Chan is set to return to the franchise. They speculate his will be playing his character from the 2010 film, Mr. Han. Though a new synopsis we have found for the film leads one to believe he might be playing a new character named Victor.

Here is the reported synopsis for the film

Li is a skilled fighter and a student in Beijing who has his life uprooted when his mom decides that they’re moving to Brooklyn for a work opportunity. Li is grappling with a past tragedy and bumping up against his doctor mother, who is dealing with the same tragedy but in an altogether different manner. Li meets Mia who goes to his high school and her dad, Victor, who runs a pizza restaurant in his new neighborhood in Brooklyn and forms a bond with both. While his mom is against violence and Kung Fu, Li finds purpose by training Victor in the art and finds himself back in the ring as well.

Now it is possible that Jackie Chan will return as Mr. Han and Victor could be played by someone new. Li and Mia appear to be new characters and again the movie seems to be leaning towards Kung Fu and not Karate like the 2010 remake did.

We can add to this news that the movie is looking to begin filming this September in Montreal and wrap in December. The movie will be filming under the working title ‘VICTORY BLVD” and is looking to release June 7, 2024.
