While people love the Mortal Kombat game series, the attempts at bringing the beloved classic to the big screen have been ill received in the past. Both the 1995 rendition and its sequel in 1997 were hated by fans and critics, so obviously we would never get another movie again, right?
Actually, James Wan, who is really catapulting the DC game with his upcoming Aquaman film, has been announced as taking the reigns for a Mortal Kombat reboot. Known for horror movies previously to his Aquaman debut, people are pretty confident, myself included; in Wan’s ability t transform just about anything.
Despite this, though; Wan took to Twitter to clear a few things up, in conclusion: nothing is moving just yet on the movie and if you’ve heard anything about filming or scouting locations, it’s all “fake news”.

On top of the tweet, Wan also spoke with Heroic Hollywood about the Mortal Kombat franchise:
“That has been such a tricky one just trying to get the script to a point. People don’t know this, fans don’t understand this, but there’s just so much on the business side of things… to try and get the right budget for it, and we want to make sure we have enough resources and the budget to do the film right. If I can’t get the right resources and find the right filmmaker for it, I don’t want to do it, and I’m so busy already. I don’t need to clutter my plate with more stuff if I don’t believe it can be done right.”
Despite two horrible previous movies, Mortal Kombat stands a real chance in James Wan’s hands. Who would you like to be involved in a reboot of the classic game? Let us know!
