Jeff Goldblum Reveals That Ian Malcolm Was Almost Cut From ‘JURASSIC PARK’

Fans of Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm character in Jurassic Park do not realize just how close his character came to being eliminated. While speaking to Collider,  Goldblum explained:

“When I first met Steven Spielberg at Amblin, he came in and said, ‘You know, there’s a movement afoot, a new rewrite is happening, and your character, Ian Malcolm, is being written out,'” Goldblum shared on a special feature of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom‘s home video release. “‘We probably wanna give these funny lines and kinda incorporate your character into the Sam Neill character.'”

As it turns out, Spielberg made the wise decision and after Jurassic Park, Goldblum went on to appear in The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Fallen Kingdom. With the next Jurassic film not expected until 2021, Goldblum has already expressed his interest.

“Who knows? I’m curious about it. If nothing else happened, I’d be entirely satisfied and nourished and lucky and thrilled to have done any of it. If I can be of any service, that’s my posture and authentic feeling. I’ve kind of nosed around, ’cause I’ve had such a great time, and [Jurassic World 3director Colin Trevorrow’s] so good. We did that Jeep commercial, he directed that. He’s awful good. I’d like to work with him more on anything. I can imagine, but it’s up to them. Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael, who I think is writing the script.”
