It’s a good idea that if Jeffrey Dean Morgan expresses excitement at the prospect of playing a role, you should give it to him. While JDM has a long filmography, he’s best known currently for his outstanding performance as Negan on The Walking Dead. Before he even premiered as the baseball bat swinging nemesis on the AMC show, JDM had teased that he was joining the show, but wasn’t revealing who he’d play at first. The rest is history as we say, because no one could play that character as good as he could.
In an interview, JDM spoke about the idea of playing a superhero:
“Who’s left? Who hasn’t been played by one of the Chrises?” He asked cheekily.
On a more serious note, JDM added:
“The only one I want to play is DC and Lobo. He’s badass. Marvel, I don’t know, everyone that’s in it is pretty good. I feel like all the greatest characters, they’re working.”
This is nearly ten years after JDM had brought up he’d like to play Lobo, after his role in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. Morgan has been tapping into the comic-book world for years, with a live adaptation of The Losers and as Thomas Wayne in Batman vs Superman.
“I’ll keep talking about it just because it’s really fun to talk about, and I really would like Warner Bros. to open their ears a little bit.”
Again, I say if JDM wants to play Lobo, an alien bounty hunter who favors cigars; let him.
For now, you can see JDM reprising his role as Negan on The Walking Dead on October 7th.
