Jim Carrey Cast in Live-Action Sonic the Hedgehog Movie

In case you didn’t know, one of your favorite childhood video games is coming to the big screen in a live-adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog. Yes, the game you used to play on your Sega Genius is getting the late 2010s treatment of bringing back the old to make something new. And already it has cast the main villain of the Hedgehog series, Dr. Ivo ‘Eggman’ Robotnik – played by none other than Jim Carrey.

Jim Carrey is best known for playing a slew of eccentric characters in movies such as The Mask, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Grinch, The Riddler in Batman Forever, Bruce Almighty, and so many more. Carrey is not only a comedian, but has some serious dramas under his belt. The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind are true examples that Carrey is a versatile actor or am I just gushing as a fan tends to do?

It’s been a couple of years since Carrey has returned to the big screen, mostly staying active online with his political cartoons that tend to make the trending list on Twitter every few weeks. It’s no surprise that someone as electric as Carrey is a creative individual at heart and it seems that he’s chosen the live-adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog to be his return to cinema.

Details of this upcoming project are very sparse, but Carrey promises that his character will be “magic” with an air of “Desperation”. While we’re not exactly sure what this means just yet, I’m confident that his dedication to bringing Dr. Ivo to live will be a spectacle to see.
