Joe Morton Talks ‘Justice League’ and Hints Deleted Cyborg Scenes Could Be Used For Solo Movie

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”1798″ img_size=”900×600″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]While the majority of the characters in Justice League had a lot of their scenes cut the character who was impacted the most by the studio’s actions in my opinion was Cyborg. For someone who was described as the ‘heart’ of the movie before its release you could just tell that a lot of his backstory was cut out. Since the release of the movie, clips have been leaked from the original cut showing Victor Stone exploring his powers as well as him playing football with his mother watching on in the crowd before he got injured. As the rest of the Justice League cast have a future projects in the works, the future of Cyborg’s character in the DCEU looks uncertain even though it was announced prior to the release of Justice League that he would eventually be getting his own movie.

Well, there is some hope for those like myself who want to see a Cyborg movie as Joe Morton (Victor’s father) in an interview with SlashFilm claimed the solo movie is “supposed” to start shooting in 2020:

“I know there’s supposed to be a Cyborg movie they’re going to shoot in 2020,” Morton said. “That’s all I know. I haven’t seen a script.”

As for the Cyborg scenes that were cut in Justice League, Morton thinks we could still see them in the Cyborg solo movie:

“There was [more we shot],” Morton said. “They completely changed the story.”

“Unfortunately, I can’t tell you what [the original story] is because that might end up being in part of the Cyborg movie,” Morton said. “Yes, there was a big change once they decided that they were going to do the Cyborg film.”

“I think the idea is to deal more with his family so you watch the evolution of him becoming Cyborg,” Morton said.

If a Cyborg movie was to start shooting in 2020 that could potentially give us a 2021-22 release date. One thing people should take in to consideration with Morton’s comments is when did he last speak to the studio about the Cyborg movie? To me it sounds like he last spoke to them or during Justice League. As you know with the fallout from Justice League the studio may have reshuffled things behind the scenes. However, even though I didn’t like them cutting Cyborg’s scenes which showed his backstory, it does make sense if they’re going to use these scenes in his solo movie.
