While Jon Bernthal’s character – Shane – was killed off in season two of The Walking Dead, the character has been a touchstone in the show for many seasons. While Bernthal came back in both season three and season nine in hallucinations for Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, the actor reveals he’s stopped watching the AMC show.
And the reason is pretty understandable:
“I got really, really busy after The Walking Dead. I have three kids and I was kind of working like crazy.”
If you’ve followed Bernthal’s career since The Walking Dead, the man has been busy. Not only as Marvel’s The Punisher, but in the Wolf of Wall Street, Fury, Grudge Match, Ford v Ferrari, and so many more projects.
Bernthal spoke of TWD:
“I’ll tell you, that show is and will always be sort of the center of my heart. I love that character, but more importantly, I love the people that made that show. I love that crew down in Georgia, they’re all family to me. Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Sarah Wayne Callies, Andy Lincoln, Jeff DeMunn, Melissa McBride, it just goes on and on and on. These people, it was really a beautiful group of people who were really all after something and did it with the spirit of collaboration and community, and it’s really the best of what I think this whole filmmaking thing can be.”
Bernthal added:
“So I’m enormously grateful for that show and I’m enormously grateful for the people I got to make it with.”
