With the success of Netflix’s Marvel TV series, it’s next entry in the Superhero genre, an adaptation of Mark Millar and Frank Quitely’s Image Comics Jupiter’s Legacy has begun production.
Executive producer Steven S. DeKnight, announced his first day by posing a question on Twitter and then having one of the characters from Jupiter’s Legacy respond: “First day in the room with the writers for Jupiter’s Legacy. Hmm. How should we approach these episodes, Skyfox?”
For those unfamiliar with “Jupiter’s Legacy” here is a synopsis:
“A multi-generational American superhero epic, Jupiter’s Legacy follows the world’s first generation of superheroes who received their powers in the 1930’s. In present day they are the revered elder guard, but their superpowered children struggle to live up to the legendary feats of their parents. The story is a post-modern take on superheroes that creates an entirely new set of heroes in the archetypes popular during the Golden Age of Comics and uses their lives and those of their children to examine the connection between superheroes and the ideals of America.”
First appearing in 2013, Jupiter’s Legacy is primarily focused on a family of superheroes. Sheldon Sampson, the Utopian, Walter Sampson, Brainwave, and the aforementioned Skyfox. During their early superhero days, the Sampsons and Skyfox were friends but had a falling out somewhere over time. This is explored more thoroughly in the Jupiter’s Circle prequel.
Those who are fans of the Image Comic Book should be excited. The trick will be for Netflix to build a show to attract an audience who is unfamiliar with the title. Do you think this is possible or will it fall struggle to compete of their existing Marvel series. GVNation wants your thoughts.
