Fans have been clamoring for a sequel to Man of Steel and for Henry Cavill to return to the role. There are rumors he might appear in Shazam 2 but that’s unconfirmed. Warner Bros. and Cavill have been quiet when it comes to his future as the last son of Krypton. For now we will have to settle for seeing Cavill as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Zack spoke with Esquire about his plans for Superman should a third Justice League be made.
“Superman has the hugest arc of everybody because he goes from like the main villain to like the main hero.”
Snyder says the film would have played much like a Man of Steel 2. He also continued saying
“I had just assumed that the final movie was going to be very much a Superman movie. Like the final chapter [Justice League 3] was going to be a large percentage of Superman to just bookend the whole thing, Because if Batman died, it would have very much fallen on Superman to be the de facto leader. By the way, at that point, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) would have been made queen of the Themyscira and she would be leading the warriors of Themyscira into battle against Darkseid herself. And Arthur (Jason Momoa’s Aquaman) would be leading the armies of Atlantians.”
Superman would be the leader of the Justice League and the world would be looking to him for support and protection. Snyder speaks on his journey to becoming the hero that the world needs
“Superman is one of those characters that people don’t see as changing a lot, You know what I mean? He’s kind of a rock that everyone props against and I just thought, how cool would it be to make our Superman the character that goes on the most incredible journey.”
The numbers for Zack Snyder’s Justice League have not been made official by HBO Max and WarnerMedia but I think it’s safe to say the film is going to be a hit. Does this mean it could lead to more Snyder films? The director leaves the door open but says WB has no plans on asking him back for more films.
Zack’s Army of the Dead comes out in May and there are reports that Netflix wants to tie Snyder down to an exclusive deal. No matter what happens, fans can hang their hats knowing they helped make the SnyerCut a reality.
