‘Justice League’: Zack Snyder Says Studio Didn’t Want Him Shooting New Footage

This weekend fans are celebrating the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Zack has been making the rounds when it comes to his vision being realized. Zack sat down with ReelBlend to talk about the film and especially about what the studio said he could and could not add.

Zack says the studio initially told him he could not add any additional scenes to the film but the director says he had other plans.

“I’ll just be frank. The studio didn’t want me to shoot anything (new). One of the rules of making the Snyder Cut was that the studio said no shooting of any kind. And then I just, of course, shot stuff anyway. Because suddenly, wait, there’s rules now on this? I didn’t know. (laughs) That seems unfair. It’s called Snyder Cut. And frankly there are those caveats because there were a lot of things — and I won’t list them here — that the studio did not want me to have in my version of the movie. And I think, frankly, that was all just because they have their own cinematic universe, and that’s great. And they were afraid that what I did might… because they consider the theatrical cut as canon, and my cut as the Elseworld, other kind of cul-de-sac. We know the terms”

This wouldn’t be the first time the studio has tried to handcuff Zack on his films. They often interfered with Justice League back in 2017 and made the director cut down Batman v Superman. The new scene Zack filmed for Justice League is the Epilogue scene featuring Batman, Joker, Deathstroke, Mera, Flash and Cyborg.

Zack had also wanted to include Green Lantern, John Stewart, the final scene but the studio nixed that idea and instead compromised for Martian Manhunter.

In the end it all worked out and Zack’s movie is out there for all to enjoy. Whether or not this means Zack would ever want to work with the studio again remains to be seen. Hopefully his days in the DC Universe are not over with.
