Justice League Dark: Apokolips War Review

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War Review (2020)

“So, you are one of those so-called New Gods. I am unimpressed.”

Synopsis

Earth is decimated after intergalactic tyrant Darkseid has devastated the Justice League in a poorly executed war by the DC Super Heroes. Now the remaining bastions of good – the Justice League, Teen Titans, Suicide Squad and assorted others – must regroup, strategize and take the war to Darkseid in order to save the planet and its surviving inhabitants.

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is the final installment of the DC Animated Universe, New 52 era. The Dc Animated Universe has a few hits such as Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, The Death of Superman, and Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. It also has a few misses as well, such as Batman Hush, Justice League vs.Teen Titans, and Batman vs. Robin. Even though I am hard on these movies, they are still enjoyable. It is just that I want the best for the DC Animated films. Anyway, let us talk about the positives and the negatives of Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.

Review

The brutality and goriness are what stood out the most out of  Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. Just seeing heroes arms getting pulled off, bodies being torn in half, and bodies burning into ash were super satisfying to me. Do not ask why it just was. But that goes into my negatives even though the action was brutal. It felt like The Justice League, and Green Lantern Corps did not have a chance. Some of the most powerful heroes losing to cannon fodder just does not sit right with me.

Another point in this film that did not seem right was the dialogue, I’m not sure if it was the delivery from the actors or just the characters lines, but sometimes it felt cringe. It was not only one character; it was most of them that felt off. With that said, the story was enjoyable, love the overall concept, how they used Superman, Raven, and Constantine (Not at first, but when the film kept pushing the plot, I started enjoying his character a bit more.)But eventually, Constantine.

This is probably just me, but ever since we got the New 52 version of the DC Animated Universe, I have not been feeling the animation or art design. It feels annoying to me that none of the character movements breathe life into the film. Much like Spider-Man into The Spider-Verse did with Miles, Lion King with Timon, Pumba, and Simba, or Batman Under The Red Hood with Jason Todd; the animation just was not there for me. Before I finish my statement, let me just point out the animation or art style is not bad. If anything, it gets the job done, which brings me to my next point.

The fight scenes! Like I said before, the standout for Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is the brutality, the goriness of the action scenes. If not anything, you will love the action sequence. Wonder Woman vs. Martian Manhunter, Mera, Starfire, and Hawkman and Darkseid vs. Trigon/Superman both of those fights were badass! When Trigon says, “So, you are one of those so-called New Gods. I am unimpressed.” gave me chills! Also, the Darkseid vs. Superman was incredible too.

Overall I did have a fun time with Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, but that is enough about me, what are your thoughts on the final film for new 52 DC Animated Movies? Let me know in the comments below.

Overview and Score
