Earlier this year, Deadline revealed that Blumhouse Productions and writer John Logan (Penny Dreadful, The Aviator, Skyfall) had teamed up for a new horror film – Whistler Camp. At the time, the film was described as a “queer empowerment story set at a gay conversion camp,” and was set to be written and directed by Logan. But no other details were revealed.
However, the Illuminerdi is reporting that Kevin Bacon (Footloose, The Following) is in talks to join the project. According to their sources, Bacon would play Owen Whistler, the owner of the titular camp. The Illuminerdi describes the character as a “good looking man in his 50s,” who has “perceptive yet kind eyes”.
Other Characters
The Illuminerdi is also reporting early details for three other characters:
- Nurse Molly: a new arrival at Whistler Camp described as “a pretty woman in her early 30s” who “appears competent though a bit intense”. According to the Illuminerdi, Blumhouse is interested in Veep‘s Anna Chlumsky for the role. Though, it is unclear how likely that is.
- Jordan: a 17-year old nonbinary character. They are described as “smart, resilient, secure, and quick-witted” and “a natural leader”. Blumhouse is reportedly searching for a nonbinary actor to portray the character.
- Alexandra: a 17-year old transgender woman who is “fashionable and not a fan of the outdoors. She is also described as “effervescent, bold, confident, and authentically herself” and “a compassionate and empathetic friend”. Blumhouse is reportedly searching for a transgender actress to portray the character.
Little else is known about the film at this point. But expect further announcements to come as development progresses.
