Kimetsu No Yaiba Season 1 Review

Demon Slayer Season 1 (2019)

This year for anime is probably the best it’s ever been. With series like Mob Psycho 100 II, Fire Force, Attack on Titan, Doctor Stone, even One Piece has gotten better in its new arc. Demon Slayer or better known as Kimetsu no Yaiba, is the most impactful in terms of animation, but what is being underestimated is the characters and the story.

By now, everyone should know what Demon Slayer is about, but for those that do not. Demon Slayer is about a boy named Tanjiro who comes home to his family being slaughter expect one, Nezuko, who became a demon. Soon after, Tanjiro’s primary goal is to stop the beast that did this to his family and turn Nezuko back to a human.

The story is simple, but at the same, too, we get characters that have in-depth character development, some that are even better than the main protagonist, Tanjiro. I’m not going to sit here and pretend that I’m not a massive fan of Kimestu no Yaiba because I am, but there are problems with the series that should be touched on.

Much like any Shonen Jump series, the protagonist has his team better term for it is Nakama. In Naruto, Naruto has Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi. In One Piece, Luffy has Zoro, Sanji, Usopp, Nami, Chopper, Brook, Franky, and Robin. You get the point.

In Demon Slayer, we are introduced To Tanjiro Nezuko and one of the most popular characters Giyu, who is part of Pillars. But later on in the series, we hang out with Zenitsu and Inoskue, who will accompany Tanjiro and Nezuko in his journey to take down the head demon Muzan.

The dynamic between Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inoskue has that certain quality that makes you feel like they all belong with each other, like a family. Tanjiro is like the older brother, Inoskue is the wild brother, Zenitsu is the brother that makes everyone laugh. And Nezuko as the younger sister who is reliable, but those three can’t help but protect her.

The Demons

One of the biggest highlights from Demon Slayer is the amount detail Koyoharu Gotōge but in each of the Demons, especially when we get into the Upper Moon territory, but we will save that for next season. The one demon that had the most impact in this series was the Lower Moon five Rui. No spoilers, but I will say Rui is a villain that is better than most villains in Shonen anime so far.

Pillars

There isn’t much to say about the Pillars since they have only had a brief introduction, but from that introduction, you can tell that they are reliable and respected throughout the Demon Slaying Corps. All with their different unique personalities and fighting styles. Some get along, and others do not, but you can tell they all have respect for each other.

Look at Giyu and Shinobu; these two do not get along at all, and Shinobu even tried to kill Giyu so she can get to Nezuko, even early on in the Giyu tried to kill Nezuko m. The Pillars all seem to have hate towards demons deeper than most Demon Slayers, which will have a significant impact on the series moving forward.

Sorry for the late review. Demon Slayer is something to watch if you are into anime. With its perfect animation and significant character interaction and development. Season one for me is a big success. And, now we are getting our next arc in a form a movie in 2020.
