Krysten Ritter Feels Good About Closing Door on Playing Jessica Jones

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”25071″ img_size=”825×464″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]If Netflix hadn’t canceled their Defenders universe, the positive buzz around Jessica Jones season three would have been good news for the streaming service. We would have most likely have heard of plans for a fourth season. Alas, season three of Jessica Jones marks the end of the Marvel Netflix universe. We won’t see Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, or The Punisher return to the platform. While there have been rumors that these properties can be picked up by Hulu or Disney+, actress Krysten Ritter has alluded she wouldn’t jump on board.

Minor Spoilers

“Do I think I’ll play her again? I don’t think so,” she told TVLine. “I feel like I’ve played her, you know? I feel really good about it. I feel good about closing the door.”

Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg also stated:

“All three seasons are very much of a piece, each like a chapter of Jessica’s life. So the first two chapters were very much about Jessica chasing her demons, both literal and internal and looking into her history and her origins and her family. They’re very much about resolving many of those past traumas. So going into season three, having faced all of those, it was very much about looking forward. Trying to build a future for herself for the first time. We wanted to explore the universal theme of finding your place in the world. The show follows this character and every season we want to push her into new territory and explore new facets of her character. The story sort of naturally came to a nice satisfying close. We had the opportunity to really resolve this chapter of her life and all the characters.”

She added:

“It feels very complete to me now. I didn’t plan for that, or anticipate it, but it has just naturally come to a close.”

If Ritter is out, perhaps Hulu could consolidate its shows if it brings in the Defenders characters. Might I suggest a Heroes For Hire with Danny and Luke? As well as a fourth Daredevil with the Punisher included? And even a Daughters of the Dragon spinoff? Ritter and Rosenberg might be finished telling Jessica Jones’s story, but us fans are not finished watching this universe. We need answers after Luke Cage and Iron Fist’s untimely cancelations!

What did you think of JessicaJones season three?
