We are currently living in an era of instant access, with more content being created than ever before. To keep up, developers and publishers need to find ways to market their games creatively. One of the most powerful and innovative ways of doing this is by offering a glimpse into games before they are released. This gives players the chance to witness gameplay mechanics and graphics before the title hits the market, and in 2024, trends like this are proving to be more powerful than ever.

    Building Hype Through Game Showcases

One of the ways in which developers can provide snippets of upcoming games is through live streaming, with the biggest benefits being that it helps to build hype around an upcoming release. Developers now have the option of being able to tease features and demonstrate new mechanics in real time. The live aspect also helps to create a sense of urgency, as viewers have to tune in at a specific time or risk missing out. Live streaming a pre-release game also helps developers to get an instant feedback loop, as gamers can share their thoughts, voice concerns or even ask questions during the stream. An example of this would be the stream that Farming Simulator released this year. If a game is still in production, this can be very valuable for developers, as it means that they can make quick adjustments, or correct potential issues before launch.

During Alpha or Beta testing phases, developers can stream the game as a way to get feedback, rather than just to showcase new features. Streaming a pre-release game can also give fans a more authentic preview, rather than a promotional video that doesn’t contain any real-game footage.

Previous Trends are Shaping A New Era for Gaming

As time has gone on, more and more games are adopting this live format. Even classic games are being reimagined this way, with titles such as chess allowing you to go up against experienced players from all over the world. Casino games are another example of how classic games are being reimagined with a bigger focus on the live experience. For example, it’s possible to play live casino games in the UK while connecting with a dealer in the US. An example of this would be how you can play Live Bellagio Roulette in the UK, but in reality, the stream is coming from a real table in Vegas. There is also the option to play from one of 80 tables at the Hippodrome casino, showing that with live gaming, there are no limitations. Trends like this have helped to shape new developments within the industry, as it has helped to showcase that the demand for live content is now more than ever.

Civilization 7, a game developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K is a prime example of the benefits of live streaming. Their live streams proved to be a great way to answer fan questions about potential victory conditions, while also encouraging people to pre-order the game before its release date. This, combined with additional pre-order only characters, helped the game to beat its original sales targets while engaging fans directly and in real-time. It also helps to bring fans into the experience by offering a behind-the-scenes look into how the game was made, which for a gamer, is the ultimate prize.
